Naila (ナイラ, Naira) is the daughter of the Kou Empire’s Royal Blacksmith, Baqir and Sanaa, a Kou kitchen servant, who serves under Hakuryuu and Hakuei Ren. After she obtained the Djinn Moragan, Naila became a royal representative of the Kou Empire, then was named a princess at the beginning of her relationship with Hakuryuu Ren.

Appearance

Naila is a smaller young woman of average build. She has black hair styled with golden accessories and golden eyes. She wears a turquoise dress with yellow linings, a detached matching yellow sleeve, black tights, and brown flats.

Personality

She is intuitive and, instead of using rational reasoning, she will rely on her intuition when making decisions, no matter what others say. Naila has a kind and compassionate soul, though a little rough and sarcastic around the edges, she loves others greatly and will always go the extra mile to please them. Naila is ambitious and adventure-seeking, such as when she ran away from home to become a dungeon capturer because she thought it would be “fun”. She will never turn down the invite to travel and adores seeing architecture in different countries and trying new foods. In addition, she is selfless and consistently goes out of her way to help others, even if her deeds are not always recognised.

However, Naila is an escapist and, if something goes wrong, she has a tendency of blaming it on her bad luck instead of taking the blame for the failure. She is weak-willed and gets demoralized very easily whenever she is discussed or when something doesn’t turn out the way she planned. In addition, she can get lazy over things that she can’t seem to take to heart and, therefore, will dawdle about the matters until the last second. Naila also possesses a sharp-tongue and an aloof nature, though this is moreso expressed when she interacts with Judal.

Physical Abilities

Though not formally educated in the arts of fighting, Naila is exceptionally talented in the art of using dao blades while fighting and can go toe-to-toe with Alibaba’s swordsmanship in the past. She is also known for her agility and speed while fighting.

Archery: By training under Seana during her time spent in Sindria, Naila was able to successfully learn the art of archery. From time-to-time, Naila will practice on her own to ensure her teacher’s training doesn’t go to waste.

Keen Intellect: Naila is very good at reading her opponent from their posture to their striking patterns. She has a tendency to go on the defense when fighting in order to memorize her opponent’s fighting preferences for the first few minutes before she choses to strike back.

Metal Vessel

Naila is the master of the 18th Djinn, Moragan

Moragan is the Lightning Djinn that Naila obtained when she conquered the 18th Dungeon. Moragan is the Djinn of Humility and Honor. Naila uses her Djinn by summoning electrical volts through her Metal Vessel. Her Metal Vessel is her dao swords (also known as Chinese broadswords), which she carries around in a sheath attached to her back.

Djinn Weapon Equip: After compressing Moragan’s powers around her swords, she can transform her dao swords into ones with longer blades and with a golden ring around it. She can also connect the base of the hilt into a large bow.

• Lightning Attack: By utilizing Moragan’s Magic with Naila’s swordsmanship, she can send blades of electricity at her target with single swipes.

• Zeus: Naila uses this attack when her Metal Vessel takes the form of a bow. By using Moragan’s Magic, she can generate a large arrow made up of lightning and will then fire it at her opponent for a long-distance attack.

Djinn Equip: Through training with Seana in Sindria, Naila was able to successfully perform a half body Djinn Equip along with her weapon. In this form, she was able to equip half of her body, with the left side being normal and the right side being that of her Djinn and her abilities are not limited to only her dao swords. Once she has equipped half of her body with Moragan’s power, she can generate electricity across her body and channel it through physical contact. Her electricity can be seen as simple sparks when she is angered or attempting to intimidate her opponent. After six months has passed, she was capable of doing a Full Body Djinn Equip. After compressing Moragan’s powers around her swords, she can transform her dao swords into ones with longer blades and with a golden ring around it and connect the base of the hilt into a large bow.

Relationships

Hakuryuu Ren

Hakuryuu and Naila originally met during the time frame where Naila ran away from home to capture a dungeon, simply because Judal wished Hakuryuu to become the owner of the 18th Djinn. However, Hakuryuu allowed Naila to capture the dungeon and then appointed her as a royal representative of the Kou Empire because of her newfound power. Since then, they have been exceptionally close and Naila never willingly chooses to leave his side.

Because of their close relationship, Naila even harbored romantic feelings for Hakuryuu and was resentful towards him when she found out he was in love with Morgiana. This caused a great rift between their friendship because Naila refused to put Hakuryuu in a situation where he would have to chose between his best friend and first love. However, this quickly changed when Hakuryuu accused Naila of being “different” and, in retaliation, she accused him of being the reason why she was changing and then confessed her feelings for him.

Their friendship was broken for months to follow after the incident because Naila refused to be within three yards of him. However, Hakuryuu managed to corner her and apologized for all the pain he had put her through and wanted to make it up to her by fixing their relationship. Sometime during the Alma Torran arc, they begin to date. Hakuryuu proposes to her during the end of the Final arc.

Judal

Naila and Judal never see eye-to-eye. Majority of the time, they find themselves bickering over trivial things, though it will quickly blow over and be forgotten, so as long as Naila isn’t too offended by the things Judal might have said. Despite this, Naila does respect Judal in the sense of his power, and not just because he’s a Magi.

Morgiana

When they first met, Naila and Morgiana was respectful towards each other, even admitting she was jealous of Morgiana’s Fanalis abilities at one point. However, after Hakuryuu kissed Morgiana, their friendship became awkward and unstable, seeing as Naila liked Hakuryuu. Morgiana became so uncomfortable around Naila that she felt inclined to tell the latter that she had no interest in Hakuryuu and she was sorry about kissing him, although she was caught off guard. This mended some parts of their friendship, though Naila is still bitter over the fact that she was Hakuryuu’s first kiss.

Seana

Naila deeply respected Seana from the moment they met for the sole reason that she was related to Sinbad. Seana was Naila’s teacher for the time that she spent in Sindria and she always attempted to live up to her expectations, not minding a little chastise from the hot-headed dungeon capturer time to time. For a few days after Naila’s departure from Sindria, she retained some of Seana’s personality, such as using sarcasm when not necessary.

Hakuei Ren

As Hakuryuu’s older sister, Naila is always respectful of her and even admires her sense of justice and because Hakuei is moreso a pacifist. Naila also respects her for her goals of a united world.

Trivia

• Naila’s name was the name of the wife of Uthman, the third caliph of Muslims. She tried in vain to prevent a mob from murdering her husband and had several fingers cut off in the process.

• This depicts the extent that Naila will go to in order to protect someone she loves.

• Her specialty is swordsmanship.

• Her hobby is training with her Djinn.

• Her favorite food is Hakuryuu’s cooking while she dislikes watermelons.

• Her favorite type is honest men and she doesn’t like overly-immature people.

• Her favorite way to spend days off is napping in the palace garden.

• The symbol on her sheath is the Maori tattoo for "soulmate".
• This refers to her two swords and, ironically, Naila finds herself unbalanced and awkward if she is without one of them wile fighting.
